Refugee Visits South Seneca
Distance Learning students, taught by South Seneca’s Gertrude Shaffer, 6-8 ELA, and fellow English Language Arts teacher Patty Parsons combined their classes to expand the learning experience with Kingsley Kabari, member of the Ogoni people from the oil rich delta near the Niger River in Nigeria, Africa. Mr. Kabari discussed with the students his plight as a refugee, what happened to his homeland, how he came to America, going to school in the states and then onto college, and the effects of large corporations regarding the influence they had on the government.
